Course Audit
Auditing a course means enrolling in a course without receiving a grade, academic credit, continuing education unit, or certificate of completion. Course audits are not considered in determining full or part-time student status, will not meet graduation requirements, and are not factored in determining financial aid status and/or satisfactory academic progress. Fees and costs for auditing a course are the same as taking a course for credit. Audited courses are identified with the grade symbol “AU’’ on the student’s transcript.
Students may audit a course one time prior to taking the course for credit. Once academic credit has been awarded for a course, students may audit the class one additional time. Exceptions may be granted by the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Dually enrolled students are not allowed to audit courses.
Course Audit Procedure
To audit a course, the student must complete the following.
- Meet the prerequisite requirements for the course.
- Officially register for the course and any applicable corequisite courses in the normal registration process as required of any other course before the final date for adding the course.
- Submit an Audit Request form to the Records Office, or choose Audit as the grading option when registering in Self-Service.
An audit cannot be changed to credit or credit to audit after the deadline for adding courses without approval of the instructor, advisor, and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
