Distance Learning
Rockingham Community College (RCC) offers distance learning courses as a flexible option for students. Online delivery is a quality, convenient, and flexible alternative for students who require flexible scheduling, such as students who are balancing careers, jobs, family, and/or personal and professional situations. RCC offers online courses in curriculum and continuing education programs.
Courses deliver instructional content to learners across distance and time using the internet and RCC’s Learning Management System, called Canvas. Each course is taught by qualified faculty who develop courses to achieve learning outcomes comparable to those in a seated class. The faculty provides a course syllabus, and course guidelines, and serves as the facilitator of the course.
Students must have access to a personal computer with an internet connection and up-to-date browser software (preferably Chrome or Firefox). Students must know how to navigate the internet and perform basic computer functions, including the use of word processing software, if applicable for their course. Personal computers should meet the minimum system requirements as listed on the Online Learning webpage. Students are required to set up and use Multifactor Authentication (MFA) to access RCC systems.
Support services are available to distance learning students to assist them with academic and support needs. These include online access to the campus library and all its services, online tutoring, email, and phone access to staff members in Student Services. Students also have online access to information about the application process, transcripts and records, accessibility services, career development, educational planning information, and additional resources on the RCC website.
Distance learning courses and services available to distance learning students are the same as courses and services offered to in-person students. The services are included with the student’s payment of tuition and fees. Tuition and fees are the same regardless of whether the student is enrolled in a traditional (in-person) course or distance learning course. Graduation requirements for students enrolled in distance learning courses are the same as for those students enrolled in traditional classes.
